Peak/rush hour (Reverse flow)
Problem
During rush hours in the morning and early evening, a problem many motorways cope with is that they can hardly bear the heavy traffic. The tidal flow of traffic creates congestion on the highway and disadvantages of traffic jam arise subsequently. Continue construction of additional traffic lanes is simply not a solution since eventually one will run out of space and funds.
Solution
Instead, the VEVA provides a more efficient and cost saving, preventive road solution to reduce traffic congestion on the motorway. By moving the VEVA crash rated movable highway barrier, redundant traffic lanes can be utilized as an extra lane for the contra traffic flow. In fact reversible lanes are created. When closed, the VEVA blocks access to the reverse lane. This system prevents ghost-riding while maximizing the highway capacity.
